Kerala Association of professional social workers (KAPS)
IV Kerala Social Work Students Congress on 6 Dec 2019

IV Kerala Social Work Students Congress is scheduled on 6 Dec 2019 at Assumption College, Changanachery, Kottayam District.

Theme: ‘Engaging Communities to Sustainability through Social Work Partnership’
,
KAPS has been instrumental for the past few years for bringing the Social Workers together in Kerala and advocating their needs. Our profession is facing various challenges and there is lot more to do for strengthening our profession.

There have been many efforts at national level and in our state too for bringing the social work students together with the sole objective of profession’s growth, and we need to continue such efforts. The culture of ‘thinking about the profession and its growth’ needs to be inculcated in the students from the time of training onwards. Though we do this as part of the training, it needs to be enhanced in all possible ways. KAPS in association with ASSK has started organizing Social Work Students Congress since 2015. The first meeting was held at Bharathamatha College, Thrikkakkara, Ernakulam, the second meeting was at St.Mary’s College, Thrissur and third meeting was at Holy Cross College, Kozhikode. The students shared that they felt like a professionals during the meetings.

As announced earlier, the fourth Social Work Students Congress is planned at Assumption College, Changanassery on 6 Dec 2019. This year also the event will be participated by students representatives from each college. Kindly depute students (two students each from a batch) preferably those who are holding position in students association) from your college.

We need to show the strength of our profession to society especially to the government. Hence this year we plan to conduct a state wide research on a project of the government and present a report to the government on behalf of the social workers in Kerala. The topic selected for the survey is ‘Efficacy of Panchayat Jagratha Samithies in Kerala’. The tool for this is attached. Kindly select one/two Panchayat near your college and conduct the study. You may send the collected data along with the students participating in the programme.

Kindly send the name, contact number and email id of student rep from your college at the earliest to: keralasocialworkstudentsforum@gmail.com. All the communications will be sent to HoD also. This year state wide student representatives will be selected and they will be included in the KAPS governing body.

Requesting your cooperation and support for all the activities. Registration fees Rs.125 (only to meet the food expense) will be collected from the participants. If possible, try to bear the cost of travel & registration by department/students association considering their representation in the meeting as official.
