The Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers (KAPS) has been actively engaging in advocacy on issues affecting Professional Social Workers in the state.

One of the major concerns raised by KAPS was the inordinate delay in direct recruitment to the post of Scheduled Caste Development Officer (Grade II). Acting on the representation submitted by Dr. Ipe Varghese on behalf of KAPS, the Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes issued notice to the Director, Scheduled Caste Development Department and the Secretary, Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC).

The matter was considered at the Commission’s Adalat held on 24 September 2025 at Thiruvananthapuram, where Dr. Rakesh Chandran, President, KAPS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, appeared representing the Association. Both the PSC and the SC Development Department were present and confirmed that all pending vacancies for direct recruitment have already been reported to PSC.

This intervention marks a significant step in ensuring timely recruitment and safeguarding the employment rights of Professional Social Workers. KAPS will continue its advocacy efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in recruitment processes affecting the profession.
