Trivandrum : Professional social workers have a vital role in strengthening social empowerment initiatives led by Local Self Government Institutions. By effectively utilising available resources, professional social workers can support the three-tier Panchayati Raj system and urban development structures in creating sustainable social change, said Mr. A. Nissamudheen, IAS, Director General, Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), while inaugurating the State-level Leadership Conclave of the Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers (KAPS) held on 9th & 10th January 2026 at Maria Rani Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

Interactive Session – Dr. L. Radhakrishnan IAS MD & CEO, Malabar International Port & SEZ Ltd.

The conclave, attended by over 80 social work leaders from 14 districts, featured a keynote address by Mr. L. Radhakrishnan, IAS, Managing Director, Malabar International Port Ltd, who presented a strategic framework for strengthening social work as a profession.

The valedictory session of the two-day KAPS Leadership Meet was inaugurated by Shri Subhash T. V., IAS, Special Secretary, State Public Relations Department.

The conference focused on finalising the KAPS Vision 2030 document. The deliberations were enriched by contributions from
Mr. K. K. Subair, KAS (State Coordinator – Local Self Government Institutions);
Mr. Domi John (State Mass Education & Media Officer);
Dr. Preethi Wilson (Joint Director, Social Justice Department);
Mr. Xavierkutty Francis (General Secretary, KAPS);
Dr. Cherian P. Kurian (State President, KAPS);
Dr. M. P. Antony (State Working President, KAPS);
Mr. Francis Moothedan (Senior Social Work Leader);
Dr. Sheelamma (State Treasurer, KAPS); and
Dr. Rakesh Chandran (President, KAPS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter).
The concluding session on 10th January 2026 was inaugurated by Mr. Subhash T. V., IAS, Special Secretary, State Public Relations Department, Government of Kerala, who highlighted the need for social workers to take leadership in development planning and policy formulation. Those who played a key role in preparing KAPS Vision 2030 were felicitated during the closing ceremony.
